Proving Des Moines is NOT boring

Unique Finds at Kangaroo Boo

I love gift giving. Whether it’s for Christmas or birthdays or just for fun. If I could have a career that would allow me to buy gifts for people, I’d do it. So obviously Christmastime is one of my favorites of the year because I love to give to my family and friends. This year I have had an extremely difficult time figuring out what to get our youngest son who will be two this spring. He’s not into toys as much as he is into rearranging furniture, pulling the cats’ tails, and destroying his brother’s room. So both my husband and I were perplexed about what to get him for Christmas. Also, Toys “R” Us is like some creepy version of hell for me, so I hate shopping there. I went there once this month to see if I could find anything, but the isles full of plastic crap made me cringe, and I ran out of the store.

Last year we discovered the toy store Kangaroo Boo and bought several Christmas gifts there for the littles in our lives. I had originally forgotten to go there when I was shopping for our sons this year, but I’m so glad that I went in last weekend. Kangaroo Boo is an independent toy store in Valley Junction that specializes in eco-friendly and unique gifts for kids and babies. You won’t find your average toys here. But you will find beautifully crafted toys that are non-toxic to you and the environment. Some of my favorite brands that Kangaroo Boo sells are Haba, PlanToys, Skip Hop, Boon, Melissa and Doug, Manhattan, Green Toys, Crocodile Creek, and more. Maybe those brand names sound foreign to you, but they make high quality toys for kids. I like Kangaroo Boo because of their unique selection. Most of these brands are not sold in your typical toy store and have to be ordered online, but I like being able to go into Kangaroo Boo to see the toys. I like being able to see how they work before I buy them. I also appreciate the cleanliness of the store. The shop is taken care of, and I don’t feel like I need to immediately wash my kids’ hands when we leave.

Also, a portion of each purchase made is donated to a children-related charity. How’s that for giving back? I love that and wish more businesses were able to support giving to charity. I like that the money I spend in the store not only is kept local, but it also helps children who are in need. If you have any last minute kids’ gifts to buy, Kangaroo Boo is a place where you will be able to find something unique and memorable. You can also like them on Facebook to know about store events (they have a kid story/craft time on Friday mornings) and sales. Even if you are done with buying gifts, remember to go to Kangaroo Boo for birthdays too!
