Proving Des Moines is NOT boring

The Black Friday buster

Well, sadly, it appears it is getting cold – and winter may be fast approaching. It is hard for me to type that, because I have come to hate winter and our unseasonable warm weather has let me forget about it for a few weeks longer.

Yet, as all good things, it appears it has come to an end and on Thanksgiving week none-the-less. Well, luckily for us there are still things to do in Des Moines during a cold-holiday weekend, that don’t have anything to do with shopping.

We compiled a list of a few things to consider this weekend that are warm, yet not in a shopping mall:

Disney on Ice – 8 shows this weekend starting on Wednesday at 7pm over at Wells Fargo Arena. “Join Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on a journey into the magical worlds of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Peter Pan and Lilo & Stitch.”

Da Vinci, The Genius – The traveling exhibit is open this weekend at the Science Center of Iowa – It is recommended you provide at least 3 hours to tour the entire exhibit. If you have a large group there is a discount rate for 10 or more.

Jolly Holiday Lights – Sit in your warm vehicle while driving around the spectacle of lights – the event is the largest fundraiser for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Club Cardio Class – This energetic workout that uses anything and everything to get you moving. The class is held at the Des Moines Social Club on Saturday morning. **Update, this class canceled on 11/24 – but it does happen each Saturday**

Obviously, there are more things to do in our fine city that are warm and do not require shopping.

What are some of the things you’ll be doing?
