Roosters Season Kickoff

When the weather is nice and the grass is green once again, that only means one thing; the Roosters are out practicing and ready to play! Iowa’s only United States Australian Football League (USAFL), the Des Moines Roosters’ 2012 season has begun! Their first match will be an intersquad scrimmage held on Saturday May 5^th at the Fort Des Moines Parade Grounds – South of Army Post Rd, on the east side of SW 9^th Street. The competition is tough this year, but the Roosters are even tougher! They have a strong team with 20 players returning from previous years! This is the third full season as a squad.

“This is the first year where we can be competitive with all the teams that we will face during the regular season,” President and senior player, Tyler Kamerman.

Always looking for new energetic players, the Roosters open their practices to anyone that is interested. Practice is held at the Parade Grounds from 6 – 8 pm every Monday and Thursday. If you love football, basketball, running, rugby, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, MMA or any other sports, than USAFL is a perfect sport for you!

If you are not cut out to be a player, come out and be a fan! The Roosters appreciate all of their fans and guarantee them a great time. “having a fan base is incredibly important. Hearing people cheering for you can be huge,” Kamerman. Games are free to attend with lots of action throughout. It is a sporting event like you have never seen before that will hook you from the first play! GO ROOSTERS!
