Des Moines is a tremendous city; I think we have developed that concept over the past two years of writing here on Desmoinesisnotboring. Of course, most people understand the concept without reading our words, but at the same point we hope we have enlightened the masses.
Another great group of people who have chosen to write about Des Moines is the gang over at Carpedm. The Carpedm gang are all students enrolled at the great Drake University, who chose to detail their exploits about the greatest city in the world – their words not mine! Their posts are very poignant and insightful, but to me the best thing about their blog is their list of places they want to visit this summer.
That list of 29 items has 12 crossed off at this point, which considering school let out in late May is a great start to the summer. They have written about many of the same topics we have here, yet their perspective is very fresh and often hilarious.
Of course three female college students have a different perspective on Des Moines than I have, remember I am a 33 year old dude.
The beautiful thing about the session is you’re surrounded by all different kinds of people–senior citizens, mothers, twenty-somethings in hip yoga fashion, two men in matching red jumpsuits (whatever fits your style, I guess) and a few kids. The eclectic group is then wrapped in an even more vivacious circle of runners, rowers on the lake, bikers, people fishing, and a man providing music for the class with a whimsical flute.
I am not saying you should ONLY read Carpedm, but I think you should definitely add it to your reader and include it AFTER you read Desmoinesisnotboring. The more the merrier as far as I am concerned, I wish everyone had the passion of the Carpedm gang and chose to write about Des Moines so everyone in the world knows how great this place is.
I have also, to this point, stayed away from the Drake University correlation between the two blogs. I got the inspiration to write Desmoinesisnotboring at Drake…and the Carpedm gang are all Drake students. I’m just sayin…
Great work guys!
