There’s many ways to support local businesses and you’ve probably heard plenty of promotions through this site alone. Through several bloggers, we’ve gone from covering Des Moines’ owned shops to Why Eat at a Chain Wednesday. We don’t give much love to national chains, and they won’t be getting much this Saturday either.
Tomorrow brings a new form of supporting local, through the Valley Junction Cash Mob:
You may have heard of “flash mobs,” where a mass of people invade a public space to make a scene. Now the idea has been turned on its head by “cash mobs,” where large crowds of consumers show up at small businesses to spend money. We’re bringing this new trend to ValleyJunction!
We invite you to join us on Saturday, April 28 in Railroad Park at Noon to be a part of the Valley Junction Cash Mob! Once we’ve got a good “mob” in the park, we’ll draw a store’s name and mob their store!
Here’s what we need from you:
-Tell your friends! The bigger the mob, the better!
-Bring $20 on the 28th, and be ready to spend it at one of the many eclectic stores in Valley Junction!
Those who know Valley Junction best can appreciate the uniqueness of its business district. For those like myself who do not know the stores too well yet, I guess we’ll just have to find out. Someone asked me this week what happens if a “jewelery bead store” gets picked? If that happens, I guess it’ll be a head start on Christmas shopping for someone else.
What it is: Valley Junction Cash Mob
