Proving Des Moines is NOT boring

Devour Takes on Year 2

Last summer brought us something new, as Mike & Kate Banasiak organized our city’s first Devour Des Moines.  The team competition that combines Triathlon activities with EATING has a lot of momentum already as everyone pulls together for this year’s event on August 4th.  Teams are now getting signed up and there’s still room for spectators who will join the party afterwards.

Press Release – Participants of Devour Des Moines will once again be scarfing down the best food that downtown Des Moines and Iowa has to offer in the annual eating triathlon. Devour Des Moines will be held Saturday, August 4 at El Bait Shop in downtown Des Moines. Teams of four will compete to see who can eat, run, bike and swim the fastest and become the “All You Can Eat” grand champion.
The 2012 event will pair triathlon style athletic events with food dishes from event sponsor Full Court Press restaurants as well as a Buy Fresh, Buy Local sweet corn stop, featuring Iowa grown sweet corn.

Leg 1: Breakfast burrito from The Library Café and a 3 mile run
Leg 2: Iowa grown sweet corn from Buy Fresh, Buy Local and a 2 mile run/lap swim at YMCA
Leg 3: Cheese pizza from Fong’s Pizza and a 3 mile run
Leg 4: Mini meat loaf dinner from High Life Lounge and a 5 mile bike ride
Leg 5: A basket of Mo’Rub wings from El Bait Shop and a team run around the block

Registration is $120 for teams of four.

Devour is one more event supported by the Young Professionals Connection (if you don’t know about that group, get to know them now!).  Funds raised through the event go towards the Greater Des Moines Chapter of Buy Fresh, Buy Local via registration fees and a pretty cool group of sponsors.
