I love it when I hear of new events that unite numerous groups and businesses with a common mission to benefit our community. There are so many events that bring all of these facets together I could not start to name them all. Yet, there is one that is brand spanking new and the topic of today’s post.
Devour Des Moines will be the most epic eating and triathlon competition ever and it will be right here in Des Moines Iowa on August 6th. The competition will need 30 teams of 4 people who are willing to eat competitively and perform a minimal fitness activity after.
Crazy? Maybe – but here is more info:
Devour Des Moines is an eating/triathlon event to raise awareness for buying local food and living a healthy lifestyle. All proceeds will go to the Greater Des Moines Buy Fresh, Buy Local campaign, which is dedicated to connecting the Greater Des Moines community to local farm-fresh food as a means to supporting a healthier population and promoting economic growth. Devour Des Moines is being planned in conjunction with the Greater Des Moines Partnerships Young Professionals Connection.
Basically, team members will be asked to eat a food item and then perform the physical act, as I stated above. For instance, Team Member 1 will be asked to consume an order of bacon wrapped tater tots and run two miles. The food will be prepared by varying restaurants downtown, most will be affiliated with the Full Court Press gang that includes El Bait Shop and High Life Lounge. Registration begins next week, which means much of their PR efforts have not yet happened so don’t be concerned if you see no Tweets or minimal messaging on Facebook. Many of the details are still being ironed out, but you can find more about this event via their webpage, which I linked to above or their profiles below:
