A new spotlight from the tech world surprisingly happened this week in the Drake neighborhood. On short notice, world famous tech geek Chris Pirillo made the wise decision to conduct some business while in town this week. This was his 2nd meet-up in Des Moines since 2011, as this one became
more interactive among his friends, family and followers who made it to Mars Cafe on Monday night.
My friend Adam told me a few years ago that his brother “runs a web business”. That may have been a bit understated, as it’s apparent Chris has done quite well for himself establishing his career as a leader in the consumer technology industry. As the CEO of LockerGnome, Inc. and former host of TechTV, he’s built an audience through blogs and online communities while serving as a contributor to networks including CNN and CBC.
His following of almost 300,000 youtube subscribers and 129,000 twitter followers includes, as you can imagine, some rather loyal fans. This was evident within the small crowd on Monday, as one guy Ben had traveled 6 hours into town for the meet-up and product demo. The demo itself was for the new Leap Motion, with videos below as the product had it’s “unboxing”.
