Ok, Amanda covered two art-related events coming up this weekend in her post on Tuesday, but there is even another event this weekend that everyone should consider. Market Day is in their third season for the montly indie craft market that runs the last Saturday of every month from May through October. This year brings a new location at the Des Moines Social Club, which is in the Kirkwood Hotel conveniently close to the downtown farmers’ market.
Market Day does an exceptional job at curating unique vendors each month. Here you can buy art, homemade and handmade goods, and vintage finds from over 35 vendors. The market is application based, so vendors have been hand picked because of the creativity, quality, and diversity they showcase. Here you can find t-shirts, jewelry, cupcakes, handmade clothing, ceramics, vintage dresses, bowls made of yarn, buttons, hair pins, and more. As someone who crafts, I can guarantee that these goods are well-crafted. You can even buy cupcakes by Darbycakes, which has some of the most delicious and inventive concoctions I’ve ever tried.
I look forward to venturing out to Market Day every month as I always find something I like. If you are a man or a woman, you are likely to find something here that you want. Even if it’s for your dog. As I’ve said before, I love to buy handmade goods. The thought and creativity coming from each item is special. You’re not just buying a piece of jewelry; you’re taking home something that was made with love.
This Saturday is the second Market Day of the year. I was unable to go to last month’s market, so I’m especially looking forward to the new vendors debuting this season. And I’m stoked it’s located so close to the farmer’s market and just down the street from the Des Moines Arts Festival. Market Day runs from 9-2 every month.
