Proving Des Moines is NOT boring

My Top 5 Sandwiches in Des Moines

La Mie’s Chicken Salad Sandwich

This is the only chicken salad sandwich I’ll eat. For $5 you get meticulously shredded chicken (not chunked) mixed with quality ingredients including tarragon, celery, walnut and cranberries. All of it is whipped up into a smooth creamy concoction that’s making my mouth water as I think about it. Get it on a croissant for extra decadence!

Nothing beats a classic pulled pork. Jethro’s does this one best in my book thanks to deliciously smoked meat and a fresh baked bun. The sandwich overflows with delicious smoked pork (so much so that I save half for leftovers sandwich). All the BBQ sauce options can give every bite a different flavor.

Palmer’s Turnberry Sandwich

For a turned-up turkey sandwich, check out Palmers Thanksgiving inspired creation. Smoked turkey, Havarti, cranberry chutney, cream cheese melt together in this inspiring sandwich. I prefer mine toasted and steamed!

Malo’s El Jibarito

Eschew the traditional bun, for fried plantains. The crispy sweetness of the plantains blends with the tangy lime aioli, buttery plantain and meaty sirloin steak.

South Union’s Pesto Chicken Melt

This is my go-to sandwich for a downtown lunch. Thin slices of juicy roasted chicken pile high on their renowned focaccia. Basil pesto, mozzarella, roasted red pepper create a creamy, tasty mess of this sandwich by the time you’re done. It’s totally worth it though.

Any other sandwich suggestions I should try?
