Proving Des Moines is NOT boring

Funky Finds & Vintage in the City

Vintage in the City was last Saturday and was especially fun for me as a Pin Up Model and someone who loves Vintage here in Des Moines.  There were fun in store specials, food and fun.

20130309_113546I started the day going to 5 & Diner to get in the mood for it. My boyfriend and I went and had that wonderful diner experience or music, James Dean Paper stand ups, and we even talked Pin UP Pictures with the waitress, ending the event there with her showing me a picture of her from the old days!

Then I went over to Funky Finds Vintage and Retro next to Dorthea’s Closet. I had been to some of the other’s already as well I had been meaning to go to Funky Finds and showcase this little store. When you go don’t forget to go downstairs because I think that is where the magic REALLY happens. I loved everything I saw in there and found lots of items I don’t generally see in other vintage stores. You have to go in to see what I mean.

While I was there they had Shirley Temples and Animal Cookies and lots of amazing kewl stuff to look at. I walked away with two cute little aprons for ideas for my Vintage Inspired Apron Line, A Breakfast at Tiffany’s Vinyl Album, A Retro Housewife Suburban Wives do it Better Book, and a hug from the owner! What could be better!?

While I was walking around some of the owners from Vintage No. 35 and what is funny is I have been waiting for their new move and planned on going to showcase them in their new shop. I handed off my card and can’t wait to hear back from them so I can go take pics and talk them up too!

I still have the card for Vintage in the City and plan on checking out some of these other cool Retro and Vintage stores. I have no clue why Atomic Garage and A-Ok Vintage were not on the list but I want you all to remember those are also great Vintage places to go to.

Here are the other ones on the list in case you missed Vintage in the City as well as my other favorites:

Brass Armadillo Antique Mall

Dorothea’s Closet Vintage

The Vintage Clothing Boutique

Found Things

Porch Light

Atomic Garage Valley Junction

A Okay Antiques

American Dream Machines

Vintage Modeling

West End Architectural Salvage

I ended my day changing my Pin Up look a bit and getting Betty Paige Bangs and updating my White Blonde Color over at Aveda Institute Des Moines from my hottest little ruffian Alyxx Peterson. (I’m trying to get her to be a Ruthless Pin Up Girl to showcase the other side of Pin Up here in Des Moines)
