Proving Des Moines is NOT boring

Thinc about this: the Locusic Launch Party

We might as well keep our theme rolling this week of focusing on the current upswing of momentum within our Des Moines Startup community. It’s a perfect time to do it as Startup City Dsm has opened its doors, Thinc Iowa is going on (today!), and the week will finish off with the Launch of Locusic. That launch includes getting as many people as possible together tomorrow night for the official Launch Party.

Here’s your details via

Locusic, pronounced low-CUE-zick (as in Local Music), is a music streaming service focused on local bands/musicians.

You open the Locusic web app or smart phone app, pick a genre, and music will start playing from the local music scene – wherever you happen to be.

The Des Moines Launch Party for Locusic will be on Saturday, October 22nd at the Bombay Bicycle Club. Come celebrate an exciting tech startup in Iowa. We’ll be featuring five great local bands of various genres.

Door prizes will be given away all night.

There’s no cover charge!

The party starts at 7pm and goes until close.

Bombay Bicycle Club is at the corner of 86th and Hickman in Clive (8410 Hickman Road)

The bands for the night will be: Obsidian’s Dream, The River Monks, Angle, Faded Pearl, and Only.

I’ve seen Jake present his startup three times already, including at StartUp Weekend Des Moines and the last Dwolla Meet-up. Each time has brought a great deal of enthusiasm, which has helped fuel his quick phase of production and growing fanbase. I also had the pleasure of participating in the final Pitch-off at Pitch & Grow last month, where Locusic took top honors. The Des Moines Music Coalition has also taken note of Locusic’s potential along with many of our local Iowa bands.

Tomorrow’s party is free, open to anyone, and it provides a great finale for a big week of startup technologies in Iowa.
