Most people around Des Moines can recognize the Young Professionals Connection(YPC) pretty easily or are at least familiar with the name by now. The organization just reached it’s 10th Birthday and has continually held a membership hovered around 500 members here in Des Moines for the time that I’ve known it. While YPC keeps quite busy with its committees, lunches, morning meet-ups, charitable and civic events, they know that select times call for bringing the members together to celebrate all the achievements.
Tonight will be one of those select times, with the Kick-Off to 2011 Celebration downtown:
Celebrate 2010 and start 2011 off in style at YPC’s Annual Kick-Off Celebration on January 28th at People’s Court on Court Avenue Downtown! The event features free food from AK’s and Fong’s, and numberous prize giveaways. At 7:30 p.m., the celebration moves to the other side of People’s for fun with Tony Bohnenkamp on the piano!”
This will be an open event, meaning if you are not a member you are still welcome to join in on the fun. If you are looking to meet new people in an informal environment (because it’s Friday and it’s at Peoples!), then this should be a crowd everyone will be comfortable with. Not to mention the amazing list of giveaways from local businesses that run from discounts to restaurants to access to a concert by The Nadas.
Without the Quarterly Connection events, Social Hours, and events like tonight, many people would still be unaware of what YPC is as a whole and how to find their direction within it. The best way for some people may be to come down, grab a drink, some free dinner and find out.
After recently serving on the Board for two years, I look forward to getting downtown tonight and experiencing the new direction YPC is heading. There’s also the buzz going around that President Jason Wells will be shaving his head if attendance breaks 300 tonight. That means if you’re the last one in after #298, sign your name twice!
